I read some people siphon there’s and some people don’t touch there’s at all. I have some excess food on the top of my sand bed and I’m wondering if this will be an issue and what to do with it. I don’t rwally want to siphon it as it takes a lot of my water out as I just did a water change

You can always siphon with some extra airline tubing. Won’t take out much water and good at getting little bits. If you can find rigid airline you can aim it better.

And maybe a couple nassarius snails as they like left over food.
