Any further thoughts on vaping in the same room as an open-top reef tank? I've seen some previous light discussion about it but nothing recent or conclusive.

The liquid that produces the vapour contains propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin with some nicotine and 'flavouring', which should be food grade.

IMO the nicotine is the non starter, for me. And I do wonder about the sugars.

Very low levels (never more than 6mg but usually 3mg) and only evenings most of the time.

The sugars would presumably act as a carbon source if they did anything at all, and I wouldn't mind that. ;)

Do we have anything other than conjecture yet? Anyone who has noted negative effects that could be attributed to vaping? I realise that any conclusions wouldn't be in any way scientific or conclusive.

I smoke outside but when I'm at my desk which is right next to my tank I smoke on e-cigs. More specifically Mark 10XLs and have seen no adverse effects on my tank.

Most people vape to find a way to quit smoking cigarettes. I am one of those 40+ year smokers that is doing it. You lower the nicotine content in the fluid slowly until you can stop. My sister did this and got me to do it also. Then some people do it because of the habit of physically smoking but at 0 nicotine. I no longer smoke in my house and don't allow it at all by anyone and I do vape in my house. It does not affect any one of my tanks. Cigarettes however did. It kept the pH low. I could never get my pH over 8.2 and now it goes / 8.3 on a daily basis. Of course when summer comes and the house gets closed up it still has to be better then when we smoked in the house. I would say that Vape in the house is fine :)

Thanks Jackie - good to hear. I've never smoked in my house - I've been in houses where people smoke and it's not pleasant. ;)

I agree! Took us a lot of time, energy and expense to get it out of our house. I was tired of cleaning up after it and put my foot down. We grew up where it was a big part of society in a time where we didn't know the dangers of it or that there were any. You could easily get them from any convenience store or gas station (underage) and they were advertised everywhere more than alcohol is today. I did not have one friend who at least one parent didn't smoke. It was on TV, in the movies, ball games, vending machines next to soda - everywhere! I am so happy that even though I & my husband smoked none of our eight kids do :)
