Varios on recirculating skimmer

I'm just curios, what is the benefit of having the controllable varios pump on the regal recirculating skimmers? Do those skimmers not have the traditional valve to regulate the air flow?

The DC skimmers still have the standard control of the output but rather have the ability to control the RPM of the pump itself for even greater fine tuning and control
