These fish are infested with ich and require immediate treatment using Coppersafe or Copper Power at therapeutic level 2.25 for a FULL 30 days (do not interrupt this 30 day period) monitored with a Hanna Brand copper test kit- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone. All other fish in with it should also be removed as they have also been exposed to the parasites and placed in quarantine tank.
The display tank will have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off. Inverts and coral can remain in the display (not treatment) tank during fallow period.
A quarantine tank can be as simple as a tank from a second hand

Yes you have to fallow on ich also. Purpose is to remove all host fish for parasites to host on. In turn, they die off without a fish

It’s ich. My fish had that and I bought a uv sterilizer! Unfortunately my fish were to far gone so I couldn’t try the sterilizer with the fish in the tank. I now have new fish and there thriving. Never did the copper stuff.

The falllw period for ich is temperature dependent as well as how much ich was in you r tank (in your case, it was a high amount). The range is 45 days at 82 degrees and low levels of infection to 60 days for heavy infections below 82 degrees.
That 76 days was information mistakenly taken from an old study.

Hi Jay,

Thank you for the reply mate, do you think its ICH also? as i was sure it was velvet but im a noob too, will do the 60 days at 82f as you say then, luckily my other fish have not shown signs of it, the reason i thought it was velvet is it happened real quick and my tang started wave maker surfing and was hiding in his cave and only coming out once the tank lights were off only lost my beautiful tang and midas and the fish i believe was the carrier (lyretail) died 4 days after i put it in the tank with the tang which the lfs said was quarantined which looks to be a bit of a lie

100% this is a severe case of marine ich. Velvet doesn’t cause distinct spots like that, just rapid breathing and not eating.

I suppose it’s possible for fish to have ich and velvet at the same time, but in 50+ years, I’ve never seen that happen.

Just checking - you need to remove ALL fish from the tank in order to run fallow. Even a single fish can harbor a chronic infection.
