Does anyone have a Vor Tech battery back up?Have you used it with the loss of power?Does it kick in automatic when you lose power?

in the event of a power failure, the back up will power the pump at reduced speed to conserve power, and it is automatic...you can also reprogram the pump to use even less power by slowing it down even more during an outage...

nice addition to the Vortech pumps, and although they're a little pricey,it's really cheap insurance for your tank...it'll more than pay for itself the very first time you don't lose over a $1000 worth of livestock to a power outage :D

After having a major ice storm here about a month ago it had me thinking what would have i done to keep my reef tank alive. There were quite a few homes in the area lost power for 5 days.Someone here on the site gave me a link to a DIY Vortech battery back up for around 90 to 100 dollars versus the Vortech for 160 plus

I looked at getting one but then decided to make my own as it was cheaper and lasts almost double what Vortech's does. You should look into it if you're the slightest bit handy with tools. Only downside is that I use a deep cycle marine battery.. and it ain't light!

Are you able to charge it with the wall outlet? Also does it kick in automaticaly when you lose power?

I dunno about the Vortech's, but the diy version I made uses a trickle charger to keep it charged, it uses a wall outlet. Mine does kick on automatically.. the vortech controller does that for you.
