I have to admit I thought this would be easier then it has turned into. I had purchased some aquarium supplies and included were two of the MP 40 dry sides, one MP 40 controller, one MP 10 with corresponding controller. None of the controllers were working so I ordered replacement controllers and a wet side for both of the MP 40 And MP10. One of the Controllers was dated 2013 so I’m not sure if that correlates with the age of the dry sides.

I guess my question is besides ordering a power supply directly from eco-tech, do I need a spacer for a glass thickness less than .25 inches and are there any other parts that I need? Also is there any other maintenance type concerns I should look into before getting this all mounted.

Thanks in advance!

For the MP40

For the MP10
• The included rubber spacer must be used between the dry side and the aquarium wall for thicknesses of 1/8” (3mm) and 3/16” (5mm). • The rubber spacer is NOT needed for thicknesses of 1/4” (6mm) or 3/8” (10mm)
Thanks for the quick reply! Anything I need to look into to make sure my dry side is functioning properly before putting it all together and into the tank?

Wet side? The dry side doesnt go in the tank.
Make sure a new wet side isnt bound up by spinning the prop. If it spins freely it is good. If it spins 2 1/2-3 time it will probably break in. If it spins 2 times or less take it apart and examine it for burrs and see if you can free it up a bit.
A tight wet side may cause the dry side to jump off the tank. Attach it to the tank as directed in the manual. If it falls it may break.

There is not much you can do with the dry side. It has bearings in it that can be replaced but I have never needed to do that.

Are there any power supplies that are widely accepted besides the Ecotech ones? $57 seems a bit steep but I don’t want to make a mistake that ultimately costs me the pump

I just realized this says it is for the wQD version. I have the wQD controller but an old dry side. Should I still use the spacer?
