Wall hammer bailout

So this is just interesting and I'm not too worried.
I've had this hammer for almost a year now. Lived through my lps crash like it was nothing
Now all of a sudden 1/3rd of it has been slowly bailing out for a week and finally tonight it left. It's all settled on a rock nice and cozy
All the polyps look healthy, no stress
I've read people just having this happen
The chunck that left was quite large, maybe 3 inches (it's a wall colony not a head branching one)
Will it be okay? Looks healthy and I'm watching. Other 2/3rds looks as happy as ever
Should I be panicking or celebrating that I'm getting another colony of this coral?

It’s highly unlikely it will form a new colony. For the coral it’s like a Hail Mary. Extremely unlikely to work but there’s at least a chance.

Personally, with Euphyllia, I have found that you need to remove the part of the coral that is dead to keep it from affecting the rest of the coral.

If you see white skeleton that part is dead. It’s not just my own experience I’m speaking from. Cut off that part of the skeleton.

Good luck. I know it sounds drastic and the rest of the coral looks great so hard to do. I resisted for a while on mine and lost several more heads. Finally cut it and it’s been healthy and thriving ever since.

They are funny corals. It’s upset about something. Personally I didn’t change anything in my tank when it started doing that. Kept it in the same place and same flow. But, mine had recently been moved (the entire tank) so I know what the stressor was. Had another one I didn’t cut and lost the whole thing.

Some other members report that wall hammers tend to die for no reason. Sorry it doesn't help as nobody seems to know why...
