Wall or Branching hammer?

May be a dumb question, but do wall hammers ever split? I had got this hammer for like 40 dollars thinking it was a Wall hammer but tonight (about 4-5 months later) while it was closed up it looks like it has split. Is it just an excessively large branching hammer?

Added pics from before and after I noticed it. Apologies for poor quality I don’t really have any good ways of taking pictures of my tank.
