How much did u spend ? Looking for one too. Is she full of personalities ?
I got lucky as **** and spent 70 from a friend.
She’s extremely skittish. Although she loves my tank is out and about all day. I was thinking of another tang, but she likes to live in all 3 of the caves i have in my system and is extremely content with it. She’ll check out my hands from time to time when im working in the tank but she usually stays away. Lol.

super chill personality, but she has killed a wrasse when it got super territorial and started bothering her. Knocked over all my Euphyllia. Her tail was black when i came home from work.

So on a different topic.
My yellow torch

So, i got this wild dragon fire (the yellow/green, on the left) torch when i first started my tank from my LFS. Thougjt it was going to die. But is actually my healthiest snd most robust coral. Survived multiple nutrient bottom outs, and is now in a tank that is super stable every week.

Last week i noticed something was off in its behavior.
25199362-4941-4E87-A019-EAF5514D7686.jpeg

Started to see tissue retract back into the skeleton.
No flesh band retraction like on previous torch losses.
mouth wasnt visible and bone was along the crown.
i dipped it and it got worse.
24E2CE72-8382-42D4-945A-050648F07C5C.jpeg

Shriveled tentacles, loosing tips. Skinnier. Not inflated. No desire to reach and extend.
The biggest indicator i saw. Was 0 pinching on the skeleton. Maybe not till this week it started to pinch/split and im just freaking out over it. Either way. Didnt look normal in my opinion to how torches typically go through a split.
Removed carbon
I dosed 5mgs of 500mgs cipro tablet diluted in 50mls of water nightly.

mouth is still inctact. It doesnt show on photo really but its there. No bone around crown.

color is looking better today, both halfs of it want to reach.
Maybe i bruised it during my coral rx dip. Maybe its bacterial.

im going to keep watch but this is My favorite torch in my tank. It gets huuugee.

Just sealed the deal at tank it easy in Chicago. Starting with a 90 gal system. My boss/friend is a guru in the hobbie so ill be following his advice on a lot of things.

Basic rundown of my planned system:
Sicce return pump
Kessil light (forgot the size. But its the size that covers 36x24inches ) getting a couple strips later to accommodate sps
A couple Mp 40s (i want to do more research to make sure i have my flow correct
Mechanical ato (100 bucks i think)
100 dollar heater (forgot the brand)

i plan to keep lps and sps and when i get the tank i will be coral cycling the tank to avoid the ugly phase and algae. Reefbuilders uses this method a few times.

i cant wait for this to start rolling
Tank it Easy is my favorite store in Chicago - they’re actually reasonable with their prices and have a proper QT setup. Great choice shopping with them!

Currently beginning to trade with people and build up my acropora collection. I really enjoy this hobby a lot. None of my husbandry has changed in the last year except for maintaning a refugium . Its crazy the tank is a year and a half old.

I lost a lot of torches due to buying a poor batch of 2little fishes glue and having torches lie in the sand bed for hours on end although that is the literal worst of my problems. which i think is pretty good to say the least. to fix the problem ive just been glueing torches down on to heavy plates that way they have 0 chance of falling over for some reason.

If you are in the chicago area and want to trade or buy anything from me let me know!

I am more than happy to share around this big green tenuis type acro. it grows super well.

Im definitely a collector and a supporter of aquaculture.

Husbandry/things to take care of:
Buy new snails every couple weeks because my wrasses will hunt them. I dont think i have any stomatella snails because of this.
I use a CO2 Media to maintain my ph at 8.3, this is done only for faster coral growth. you dont really need to worry about your ph in my opinion.
Since implementing a refugium a few months ago my nutrients have never been more stable.
Water changes every 2 to 3 weeks.
ICP tests bimonthly

I just reduced the amount of time UV is on for the reef tank. I think its causing some burning on my acroporas causing them to bleach. Only one old milipora has died so far but im assuming its because of that. The shaded parts of the mili still maintained color.
