I have noticed some people swear by doing water changes weekly and others say they never do. I wanted to make this thread to see what a majority of people do I personally just dose and only do water changes when I want to remove debris or clean my sump.

I do both only I never clean a sump. My acro dominant tank that I use AFR on gets a 2g WC every two weeks or so to clean detritus that settles in one corner. My large tank gets 10% WC every week to 10 days I'm currently not dosing anything.

This isn’t a yes/no question. There are so many factors and variables to consider.

I will say this:

Give me 100 new reefers. Have 50 of them perform weekly water changes and 50 of them not change water ever or at least a very infrequent schedule. I can all but guarantee which group will be more successful after 12 months.

I do water changes about once a month, it helps to replenish my elements, seeing as how I don’t dose anything other than iodine
