My tanks is (and will be) LPS dominant. I have two Hydor 3G 1350 GPH, a nano Hydor 425 GPH and a aqua excel D.C. Pump for the return which pumps 1700 GPH. The aqua excel is a beast and I have it set on 5 (out of 20) as even at 12 it was too much.

I have the two 3Gs on the back wall facing the front of the DT and nano on the side pushing water along the back wall. I am controlling the two 3GS with the Hydor smart wave. I can run them at the same time with an on/off function set for every 1/2-1-3 hours (etc) or I can run them alternate.

When i run all at once there is def a lot of flow but almost no dead spots. Everything get stirred up - however when they are off (the 3G) the coral do seem to expand more (Duncan, Leather, Zoas, Galaxy and Shrooms). I also have a BTA. Currently I am running it - both on same time for 3 hours and then both off for 3. My thought is it stirs up debris gives plenty of flow but also gives the shrooms a chance to chill. Otherwise I can alternate but when I did that for a few days some of the coral seemed to not be as happy.

Should I move a pump to behind a rock and lessen flow and have them alternating or is 3 on / 3 off ok?
