Water level in sump not staying steady

What is the braided one circled?

That's the out for the UV. It's running into the skimmer section now.

And yes I know it's a mess lol. When we move this year I'm going to take that chance to break it all down and re do all the stuff underneath the tank.

Is there a pump in the skimmer chamber powering a UV that pumps water from the skimmer chamber to the return chamber?

since you moved the line to the skimmer section are you still having this issue?

I have never understood the design choice of that sump. Personally I would have had it in series like this

inlet/filter socks > skimmer > refugium > return

That way the skimmer chamber water level will always be constant
