OK, so I spoke to Richie, says he gets all sorts of stuff but nothing square or rectangular; bummer.

i think I'll just order these tanks (80G) and pay freight, there is 6-8 weeks lead time of these darn things straight from manufacturer.

Ruralking.com generally has the 55g size with free shipping. I ordered (2) 25 gallons from then and shipping was free, though this was near the beginning of the year. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Are we talking about the 55 rectangular tank?

Currently both the 55 and 80 are out of stock. They have no idea if and when they'll be back. I signed up on their site to be notified but something tells me they figured they are not making much with crazy shipping.

I'd recommend checking CraigsList anyway. In my area (Oregon) I found a vendor on CraigsList that specializes in water storage (they market them for off-grid, emergency survival, etc.) but they actually have a huge selection of both new and used containers. They don't advertise anywhere other than CL. Worth checking.

You’re right they do advertise “New” barrels so indeed it’d be a start to look for someone who makes and sells them . I’d still stick to not buying used though. Not worth the risk

Looking to buy new only. These things are not crazy expensive but when people quote you $300 to ship containers that are buck-seventy you pause.

I spoke (via phone) to a store manager at one of the RuralKing stores and he made it sound like these items are seasonal scheduled to arrive when in demand by farming community. He wouldn't say exactly what it means as far as dates as he didnt have an ETA in the system for containers that would be of interest.

That said, I got about 3-6 months before I absolutely need them so I'm in no rush to pay three hundy for LCL Freight just yet.

I also got the upright 55g rectangular ones from RuralKing a year ago or so with free shipping. They were delivered this time of year, I just can't remember the exact date now, but likely was December. Then again, I live in an area dominated by ag and farming, but we don't have RuralKing stores anywhere around here. As I remember though it was shipped to me from very nearby, perhaps one of the distributors for Ace Roto-mold they work with is near me.

That was all truly unhelpful to you other than to say I got mine from RuralKing in the so-called "off season" with free shipping ordering through the website. :)

Yes and turns out they shipped from something like less than 100 miles away from my house. If I'd have known I could have just picked up sooner than it took them to deliver.

@BZOFIQ i used them because they fit well in my space, and were easy to plumb. I also liked the flat top for plumbing and using for workspace when needed. Plus they look cool. ;)

I purchased at ruralking.com which offered free shipping. Everywhere else wanted over $100 to ship. It was a drop ship from the mfr, and it took a few weeks.

Good luck!

Thanks for chiming in Dave.

They definitely look cool plus its a perfect fit for under-the-starrcase closet setup in my case.

As previously stated, ruralking has no stock, so no go there for now. I'm being quoted $180-300 for shipping alone depending on whether its 55 or the 80; nuts.

I still have time so still waiting hoping that RK gets them back as a seasonal item - wouldnt complain about free shipping either which would allow me to get multiple tanks.

I think I know what the deal is. It's the delivery zip code! NY is killing truckers.

I use 10309 and I believe it was tanks-for-less that said they don't ship to Staten Island or one other store.

I plugged a zip code for Linden or Edison NJ (close enough) and the price is the same as yours! and its literally 5 minutes over the bridge from me.

Plug in NY zip and you have to call to get rates and the story quickly changes with rates nearly tripling. This happens presumably because of tolls into NY via bridges, especially with trucks with multiple axles.

This shows me that the way to go around it is to call back these different distributors and ask for delivery to an address right outside of Staten Island, NY. Perhaps I can ask co-workers to ship to their home address but then they'll hit me with residential delivery plus who is going to be there to accept it.

I got little more time before I have to order so here is to hoping RuralKing starts free shipping again; if that fails I'll be forced to fork over the $$$

Thank you all for big help guiding me in the right direction.

Just wanted to post this as I stumbled across my own old thread; perhaps it will save somebody a great deal of time and money.

I did find the source that is willing to ship to a residential address via UPS. This makes it a LOT cheaper than shipping via truck freight.

They can ship both the 80 Gallon (which I ordered) and the 55 Gallon (which my buddy ordered 2 off) so completely your choice.

Great guys, very easy to talk to, took the order over the phone, packed it well in cardboard and shrink wrap and it was here a week later in perfect shape.
