Water Storage - How long will it last?

I tried asking this in the much larger storage designs thread but no responses so Im hoping I can can a response here.

Does anyone know is RO/DI or salt water goes bad in sealed containers? Will either get algae? Does salt water degrade? Someone mentioned it losing some of it's vitamins I believe?

I was only change out about 10gal a week on my 75 so I don't go through a ton but I was thinking of a 45-65gal ro/di container and maybe a 25 or so for the salt. I'd probably make the 25 portable since the water needs to get to the other side of my house.

Is it better to mix on demand or store it?

I have my ro/di water in a 44 gallon brute container, i only use 5 gallons a week for water change. I always mix on demand.

Not sure if i answer your question , but this is my method.

I keep my water in a 55g drum, use RO for top offs, and only mix salt on demand.

Thank you both. I have a 44 Gal brute also and I have my RO/DI in there waiting for whenever I need it. I noticed the other day it was testing at 16ppm with my ro tester and that got my wondering if it had been sitting too long and maybe something had gotten into it. Im currently mixing salt in 5gal buckets (one at a time) and it's just taking me longer than I'd like it too and wanted to up my game a bit. I am still leaning towards mixing on demand, just maybe more than 5gal at a time.

If you are doing a reef it's best to mix water on demand. The elements precipitate out and your major elements; ca, alk, and mg will lower over time. Mixing in too warm of water will facilitate this action also, try to mix no higher than tank temp.
