Waterbox 105.4 SPS shallow lagoon

Wanted to take some pictures last night but nothing really has changed much. I tested alk and it was 5.9…. So I’m adding Red Sea alk and upped kalk dose from 400 to 450ml. I’m thinking I may look into a continuous duty dosing pump but not sure I really need it my Kamoer is capable of dosing 24x a day so I guess I’ll just keep upping the dose I just don’t want to throw anything off my adding large amounts of kalk all at one time. Can anyone confirm if this will be a problem? Once DKH is inline I’ll take a closer look at calc and mag, with the kalkwasser I’m at least supplementing calc. Also I’ve been having some issues with my skimmer, bout it used but worried the pump or controller is what’s causing the problem…. It’s a BK so replacement parts are not cheap.

Took a break from the tank. Kept up with the bare minimum but that was about it. Didn’t do any water changes for awhile… I just got bored with it I guess from not getting the results I wanted. However my interest is back and I did a 15 gallon WC this past weekend, did some other cleaning and built a rack on the bottom for some pieces that have been looking bad for awhile. Also for some reason I had several pieces break off the rock.

The green birds-nest colony is dying on the inside I may just pull it out and replace it with something else. RAP Orlando is in 2.5 weeks so hopefully can grab a couple new pieces there

Still not totally satisfied with my BK 180 skimmer. After last weeks WC and restarting the skimmer a handful of times it pulled a consistent amount of skim all week. After this past saturdays WC, and again restarting the skimmer a few times and turning up the pump it’s produced nearly no skim into the cup…. It really should not be oversized for my system so I don’t think that’s the issue but I suppose it could be? Another issue I have with it is it does not have a float switch, which is led to a handful of overflows when the skimmer decides it wants to

Also I’m considering changing lighting and flow on the tank lol I’m looking for a 48” reef breeders photon fixture. With flow, I have 4 wavemakers in the tank I have 3 jabeo and one ice cap. The ice cap is the FP-200 it very closely resembles an mp40 but turned up all the way on random mode it doesn’t push flow across the 4’ tank unless it’s getting interrupted by the two smaller jabeo I have on the back wall. The big jabeo I have mounted on the left side pushing right has no problems. I’ve considered adding two Tunze orcas with the 6075 pumps but man spending $1100 on pumps isn’t enticing. Does anyone k ow if a jabeo pump will mount into an Orca??

Tops down during water change, put in two emerald crabs today, hopefully my bubble algae issue I’ve been hoping would go away on its own will start to go away now that they are in the tank

So after my last update I kind of lost touch with the tank. Coralline grew so thick on the front glass it took me and my wife about 2 hours with razor blades to scrape it off. I’ve switched from kalkwasser to AFR and have been spending awhile trying to dial that in. Also trying to get my flow dialed in, nutrients went weird and most acros have very poor color. So anyways I’m going to give the tank a little more time as is and see what happens I’ve been trying to do the acro thing for around 1.5- 2 years and have had minimal success. My acros do not die they just mostly sit dormant and have poor color. So if not much changes soon I’m more than likely going to reset the tank into a softy tank probably take off my LED bars and just run my 10k halides for like 8hrs a day. Add in sand to be able to have fish that I want but cannot have since I have a bare bottom and see how that goes. Just simplify the system over all and hope to be able to have a nice over grown reef

Don’t have any new tank pics to post although changes have been made some equipment and some in tank. I got tired of the finicky bubble king skimmer so I had Jeff over at Life Reef build me one. It’s a 27” SVS running a mag12, it’s an absolute beast I love it.

The skimmate pics are just a couple days worth had it running a bit wet I’ve got it tuned in a bit more to my liking now running pretty dry this thing pulls like a train though. I’ve had bubble algae in the tank for a long time and recently have been losing a lot of snails so I placed an order with ReefCleaners that comes in today I did the custom package so I really hope to see a decline in the algae. It’s not bothersome just looks bad and is always getting stuck and building up on my powerheads. Acro color isn’t the best right now but my nutrients are too low so I’m trying to bump those up. I also impulse bought a big bird wrasse the other day I can see it being a problem so I’m thinking I’m going to end up pulling it back out and returning it unfortunately. Funny thing is I’ve wanted a possum wrasse or two for over a year and they had two there I have no idea why I went for the bird. I’d like to add those two possum wrasse though I think a pair would be cool. I’ll post some tank shots tonight when I add the new clean up crew also I’m thinking about bringing kalkwasser back on line along side AFR

Said I’d come back with some tank shots. Parameters are all out of whack and bubble algae is hanging on strong, hopefully the new clean up crew starts to make some changes. Also picked up something today in the way of lighting, may swap out the halides may not haven’t made up my mind yet. I’m just tired of the heat from the halides in the tank my fan runs basically the whole photo period from the time the halides kick on until well after. Temp still get up to like 82 and the tank evaporates 5gals of water or so a day getting tired of having the keep the ATO full every day

with my parameters this out of line I couldn’t imagine what this tank would be if I could get some stability and keep it for awhile
