Waterbox 105.4 SPS shallow lagoon

When I went from 8t5's to 2 250 halides I just set them for 8 hrs and was done. No issues with any of the corals.
Awesome! Great news I’ll increase run time for tomorrow to 4 hours. I was only planning on running them 4-6hrs a day anyhow

Perfect. I ran 8hrs on my 250's with no supplental blues. Went to 7 hrs after Orphek bars were added.
My new ext 112 will be similar with 6-8 hrs peak.
Get a FTS with all lights on. We love the look of halide lit systems!

Ran halides today for four hours and increased Orphek bars to 10. Snails are making good headway on the algae that was starting on the side of the tank that gets spill over from my 40. Also made a small mistake. Hooked up my three fans to my inkbird but didn’t turn on the fan controller so tank got up to 82+

I have corals in the tank, added three more chromis for a total of 5 and a small blue eye Kole tang. I try and catch the others out of my 40 but have not had any luck. All Corals are looking great in the new tank I’m going to do some testing tonight halides are running 4 hours and LED running 11. So the hygger fans are not going to work out because you have to physically turn them on everyday tank is swinging 4-5 degrees. In the meantime last week I took a lifelong dream trip with my dad and friends to do some duck hunting in North Dakota it was everything I hoped it would be

Well Dino’s are here, all live rock start so idk I’ve read so much about starting with real ocean rock but maybe I didn’t buy enough? P04 last test at .04 and I’ve been at zero N03 since the beginning. I dosed both last night and will more than likely pickup a cheap jabeo 55w UV. Here’s some pics under halide LED and just Halide, aquabrite 14k no filter

Tank is humming along nicely Dino’s came and went by themselves without much fuss thankfully. I placed a battle box order so when that comes in this week I’ll probably post a couple pics I’ve added a couple LPS from my 40 and two new sticks from WWC as well. On a not so good note I had my eye on a lemon peel angel at my LFS for awhile and they offered me $10 bucks off sticker price so I picked him up and now on all my SPS except birds nest and stylo I’m getting very little polyp extension and have seen him nipping. PE at is good so I’m sure he’s the reason I’ve been seeing very little PE with the lights on I’m bummed probably going to end up trying to catch him out I really like him but not having nice fuzzy sticks is a huge bummer

Nitrates are 0 I’ve been dosing and am waiting on a BRS order to get the tank on Kalk. I do have a calcium reactor but just wasn’t ready to spend the bill for the regulator and tank just yet I’m familiar with kalk and already have a dosing pump, I know it can take the tank a long ways. As far as corals go it’s so so at the moment. I did get a battle box from @Battlecorals I ordered a 4-6 piece and I got 7. I love ordering from him

Did some work last night getting the halide ballasts hung up and the controller for the new skimmer in order to make room for the 5gal jug for kalkwasser dosing. I tend to go wild getting a tank put together and then as soon as I press the start button things can go a little out of site out of mind as far as cable management goes. Over the next couple of days I plan to get things a lot more straightened out. Also I’ve been unimpressed with the waterbox sump. It does its job fine but I do find it a little quirky the built in ATO compartment is certainly nice but I do feel like you lose out on a lot of beneficial space for filtration. Also, the sock section with the two baffles I’m not a fan of I’ve considered cutting this out or just replacing the sump all together… but then I’d have to find a hiding place for another 5-7g water container for ato. Since the tank is up and running flow has also been on my mind and am currently running three different powerheads I’m really thinking about picking up a wave engine with two gyres and running them along the back wall horizontally which would essentially give me coast to coast flow front to back which I think would be great. I don’t think you can have too much flow in a BB SPS tank but I do think you can have flow that cancels out and just doesn’t really do much which is what I have going on. I’m also planning a big sump clean out there is some thick detritus down there I’ve heard that it’s beneficial for new tanks especially BB but it’s getting pretty thick. I’d like to drain the sump dry and get it back to squeaky clean add in my new skimmer and some more live rock maybe even some macro for a little fuge setup. Anyhow lots on my mind just need the motion

Got 50gals of water mixed up and ready to do a big sump clean out. I’m a little nervous because if I use all 50g it’s going to be a ~50% water change and I’m not really looking to change my params at all so maybe I’ll try and at least match nutrients between the tank and the mixed up water. I grabbed a couple pics during peak

This is 14k aquabrite bulbs and 2 orphek blue plus no filter lens on my phone. My bars are only 36” so I’ve been considering adding some Kessils to the lighting like maybe some 160s or 360s if I found 2 used for a decent price. I’d like to go kessil for the shimmer

Great looking tank. Good idea on trying to match things up if you’re changing that much. You can also pump out some clean tank water and set it aside and reuse it so the water change percentage isn’t that big.

Hey bud thanks I appreciate it! I didn’t even think about pulling some water out from the tank that’s a good idea. I believe my sump only holds around 30g but really don’t have any idea. I’m gonna look through your build thread thanks for chiming in

So I was finally able to take on cleaning out my sump. The detritus was super thick and my PO4 was reading .2+ my acros have not been looking the healthiest so I’m thinking and hoping all the crud down in the sump was the issue. I know when I was sucking it out with my shop vac it smelled bad lol I wanted to keep track of how many 5 gallon buckets I emptied but it just slipped my mind to get an idea of how much running volume is in my sump if I remember correctly I ended up pulling out somewhere around 20-25 gallons so a nice little water change for sure. Also I picked up a bubble king double cone 180. I was running a RO110 and think it was undersized I will say though the 180 may be a tad big. I have the stand pipe cranked all the way down and the pump running slow and still am having a bit of trouble clearing the neck hopefully with a bit more break in time I can get it running how I like it. I added four more fish yesterday so that should help

Skimmer decided to overflow for some reason have no idea what happened. For what bubble kings cost I can’t believe they don’t have a built in float switch to kill it. Did I 10g water change and tried to take some pics under the Orphek bars and halides but the reflection had other plans. I feel like the tanks coming around a bit I was thinking about adding some new pieces this weekend but may hold off for a little while maybe a month or two and watch the pieces I have I also moved a piece that was sold to me as WWC grizzly Adam’s which is one of my favorite acropora. It turned pretty whiteish gray when I lowered my lights so I moved it to the very back of the tank. I’d actually really like it to take to this spot and fill this area in it’s an awesome coral when it does its thing

Nice set up. You may consider putting a small PH in the sump to move the detritus off surfaces so it can be filtered out limiting the accumulation in sump.

I'm a huge BK fan but currently running a RO as my Supermarin 250 is too big for the tank. I've never had an overflow problem with any of my BK's over the years.

Yes I have a Nero I may add to the sump. And the skimmer has been solid over the last week since adding it in. I really have no idea what caused it to overflow

If it's new and you just put it in, it's probably still breaking in a bit. Make sure there is nothing obstructing the air intake or a kink. Although I'm sure you've already done that. Following along to see how things go for you. I also have a WB and love it.
