Waterbox 180.5 Build Thread

I just picked up the same tank second hand! Love the scape. I’m planning on doing the reef mat 1200 as well would you be willing to share a few photos of how you have that set up and any advice?
Thanks!

Sorry for such a late response! I have the 1200 in the filter sock chamber, with the intake hose going to the back of the sump into the drain. You need to cut out all the glass (including the enclosed area for the drain to trap bubbles) to fit it. For that I used the red sea sump modification kit but im sure a razor would work fine if used carefully. I also had to cut the drain a few inches for a cleaner fit with the intake hose but you might be able to get by without cutting it. It’s a far forward as possible to the front of the sump, and an extremely tight fit but it works. You have to slide the sump as far right as physically possible in the cabinet (which isn’t much but its needed), and I put the reefmat in before putting the sump in the cabinet so I’m not sure if it’s easy to remove or not. If you take it apart I’m sure there is a way to pull it out. I’ll get some photos for you in about an hour when i get home from work, but feel free to ask questions. Sorry if I’m late and you’re already done installing, I dont tend to check my r2r notifications.

As you can see, the side of the reefmat that opens out to change the rolls needs to be positioned so it opens to the right. Let me know if you want more pictures or have more questions

Just wanted to let you know your response was super helpful, you are correct it is as tight of a fit as it could possibly be. If anyone else is doing this get the Red Sea modification kit if it worked for @Lelegance you’ll need it I had razer blades and braided fishing line and was not able to remove the glass sections without breaking them. Luckily the sump survived but it was a little sketchy.

if your sump is installed you’ll need to completely disassemble it to instal the top and bottom half’s come apart.

Thank you again for posting this thread I was not willing to break down the sump and spend the money unless I knew it would fit without removing the center baffle.
