Waterbox stands inside shelf.

To anyone familiar with waterbox stands. You guys know that shelf inside it, and those pesky C hooks that twist in to lock it in place. Any pointers on getting those out? Trying to work around my equipment and not be forceful. But they are kind of eroded and in the wood just enough to not really work them back. Wanted to see if you guys may have better hacks than what I googled because the salt/time, and the location makes it a little more difficult than the average youtube how-to.
