Watermelon chalice

I know this may seem like a stupid question but what is the difference between a hybrid watermelon and a regular watermelon?

I don't think there is a difference.....It was just to differentiate a couple watermelons that were released after the Tyree WM years ago

I thought it would be more to it than "This one has a green rind so I will call it a watermelon and this ones looks like a watermelon too, but I will call it a hybrid watermelon". There are lots of watermelons and hybrid watermelons so really they can just dump the hybrid adjective if it serves no distinguishing purposes.

Im not 100% sure but I think it is:

Hybrid: Has multi-colors in the body, some wm chalices you see have a purple body with red splashes(for example) others have the same pattern in differant colors,I guess these would be the hybrids..
Example-Gadgets Hybrid Watermelon

Regular: One color body,contrasting eyes,green rim
Example-Tyree Red Watermelon(on right)

Even tho it wasnt asked..

4 Color: Green rim traced by a solid blue rim,body color,contrasting eyes(usually), it needs 4 colors on it,obviously,lol
Examples: Beakerbob's 4-Color

I understand how these can be very controversial but if you look at them very closely you can see the differances..

The problem is some people think if they slap 4-color or hybrid on a regular WM they can sell it for more $$$,which they usually can, so this mixed up the original meaning of collector specifications of watermelon chalices: Hybrid, WM, and 4-Color.

IMO - Long before the chalice craze started(5+ years ago) it was used to distinguish the two most well known Watermelons. The tyree, and the ECC/Brians baby hybrid watermelon. It made more sense when there was only a couple morphs being traded/sold. Now it's just part of the name game/hype

Yes it makes sense hybrid being 2 colors. The other may be true as well except it seems there should be a reason why others would call their's hybrid. Thanks for all the input.

There are too many watermelon-type challices to even keep track of... But now entire colonies of these are being sold for $200-$1000 depending on quality, so things are getting cheaper. We hardly frag chalices anymore....not even worth it unless it is something truly crazy.

BTW, 4 color was named by me about 6 years ago. It's pretty much a twin to the Goldeneye, which is why Tyree did not make it a LE. Both pieces came in the country about the same time.

I had no idea there were differet types of watermelons! The one I had before was an orangeish color in the center mixed with the blue and of course the green rim and yellow/green eyes and it was kind of flat. Not real raised and bumpy! I loved it and was looking for another so I bid on one from WWC what a mistake! It has no green rim its just a purplish pick chalice!! Is there such a thing as a watermelon wiith out a green rim and different color eyes? I am thinking of a jayda, because I wouldnt have to pay to have it shipped! Unique coarls has it and I already have an order coming in so I could add it to it! Are Jaydas higly regarded? Its a little bumpy for my tastes but the colors are nice, especially the rim! Just wish I could have saved mine!
