Wavemaker or Gyre for best flow in 36”x36” cube?

What do y’all use to move the water in your cube tank? I’m considering a Jecod CP-40 gyre on my center overflow box for flow. Does anyone have a similar set up with a gyre in the middle? Would individual wavemakers be better?

I will have a return nozzle on the back left and back right of the tank from my return pump for movement as well.

How many would you recommend? Also, are there any major advantages to having a Wavemaker with controllers as opposed to having them on 100% of the time?

With a 36"x36" I would want 4 powerheads. I would look for ones with a very wide flow pattern like the Vortech's, as opposed to ones with a lot of reach.

Lots of theories as to if variable speed is better or not. I feel it is to be able to provide variable turbulent flow, but I can't back that up with anything solid.

i have a 60 cube (24x24) and flow is a bit of a challenge. ime/imo individual powerheads -- either staggered on the back wall or at 90 degrees to each other on different faces of the tank -- are the better option.

Any ideas on what set up I should be doing.
The tank is 400l cube. I have a wave maker and three power heads working on it at the minute plus 2x return pumps with directional nozzles.

I have a friend that just got a Jebao cp25. Loves it. She put hers on the back wall and uses 2 powerheads too. I think you might like a bigger version.

Thanks for the idea Katrina. I do like the idea of these. If I had 2x of these vertically mounted both on the back wall left and right.... this could do the trick.... Any thoughts?

For my 93 (30x30x24) I am going to be using two jebao on the back wall near the corners, one high, one low. I will also be putting an icecap gyre under the overflow and running it at a lower speed. Coupled with a 500 gph return I should have really nice flow and fairly random.

had my 24"x24"x24"cube 2yrs now. Last year I re-scaped to a central bonsai structure, tried gyre, mp10 and Jaebo (x2) and still have dead spots in the tank.

I could get a wave in my 150 DD with MP40's. I ran out of wallet with 4xMP-40's and still had dead spots. Still do
Once I get more important things taken care of, I'm going to make some changes, possibly some bigger Tunzes.

im in same boat about to do a 36x36x27 cube. i was going to try 1 gyre, and 2 power heads. would like to see whats working or not working for others since I'm in starting phase of my tank.

I have a 36x36x24 140 gallon cube and I run 2 gyre 280s mounted vertical on the back wall on gyre mode and it does really well. I have a few dead spots but that's only because I run them at 40% so it doesn't blow my sand everywhere.

Yes having them switch back and forth it 15-30 seconds each head gives me great waves .

Personally I get confused over the Benefits of waves or a power head that gives random flow. I know the big concern is dead spots but what else?

I have a 93 gallon cube and am running my return pump with a double return back into the tank . I am only running one mp40. I couldn't imagine having more than that. I run my return pump at 75% and the mp40 maybe 20%. I set the mp40 on reef crest mode on the opposite wall of the returns and it makes a wave motion with just that. I dig my cube but I also kind of feel like it makes lighting, wave makers hard to pick and find a way to make them work in a cube. Plus, i can't for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the micro bubbles. Does anyone else with a cube have that problem?
