I searched but cant find one that checks all the boxes…

1) very small
2) magnetic drive, cord outside tank
3) programmable - preferably via app
4) the portion that sits outside the tank can be submerged (AIO tank and it will be located in the rear sump)
5) can set or change flow direction

Thanks!!!

I highly recommend Hygger, it checks most of your requirements and is very affordable. I use one in my 32 g.

Thanks for the response, you are correct Hygger checks most, but the one biggie is the cord. I dont want a cord going up the back of the tank and none of their models offer a cordless option.

The reason you can’t find anything that checks all of your boxes is that box 2 and box 4 on your list are incompatible. You can have one or the other but not both, a product like that does not exist. If you want the cord outside of the tank and the pump to be small it’s either an Ecotech Marine MP10 or one of the equivalent Jabao/Jacod DMP-5 or DMP-10s.

Thanks for the reply and information. That is what i suspected but was worth asking justin case.

Looks like my best option (B) is to increase the size of the return pump. Of course that introduces the next dilemma, what will fit?

Thanks for all the feedback! I am going to update my ask…
1) very small (< 2” in diameter)
2) magnetic drive, cord outside tank
3) programmable - preferably via app
4) the portion that sits outside the tank can be submerged (AIO tank and it will be located in the rear sump)

5) can set or change flow direction- the ones I have seen attach perpendicular to the glass and you cannot angle it toward center of the tank.

I should add i dont want to spend $100’s.

The Jebao ELW/DLW style pumps (the Nero looking ones) can be angled a bit by sliding them slightly off center of the magnet mount. They make several different sizes, but the 3 or 5 size would be closest to your physical size requirements. The wifi and bluetooth models are programmed via an app that offers quite a few features.

If that isn't "aimable" enough, look at the EOW pumps. They're a more traditional looking wavemaker with a small diameter, but they do protrude more into the tank. Same wifi, same app.

IIRC, the Jebao magnets are all safe to be submerged, so putting them on the back wall of an AiO is fine. They use the same magnet for the internal/external mounts on the ELW/DLW, so I know at least those will work.

Thanks for the reply. I had a Jebao SLW-20 delivered yesterday and it is huge imo. Tho the description indicated 1.75” diameter its actually close to 3”. Its size really stands out in a nano aquarium. I didnt realize there was a SLW-3 which may be perfect. Though the 660 gph is lower than i wanted, a 1.5” diameter is perfect.
Thank you again!!!
