Not sure if this is something to be concerned about, but I’ve noticed my palythoa has a clear to white film around the base of the polyps that extends around the frag plug. What’s going on?

Sponge growth. Harmless filter feeder but can be removed.

This makes sense as my tank is new and has recently seen an outbreak of pineapple sponges. But this film doesn’t have much of a distinct shape so I wasn’t sure.

Thanks for the input

As long as the sponge impede and cause the Paly to close, leave it alone. Sponges are filter feeders that will aid in water quality. Not to mention they come in various shapes, sizes and colors.
