My Blue Eyed Kole tang has been showing a weird pattern of behavior and I'm curious if anyone has experienced the same thing. Aside from usual pecking at rocks, glass, etc for Algae, sometimes when I turn and look at the tank, he will charge around or swim quickly to the side where i'm nearest, fan out his fins very wide, and his colors change. the White decorative spots become vibrant, his belly appears to be more pale, the whites of his eyes become more defined. The Yellow in his fins become very bright. This happens for maybe 10 seconds, then he calms down and goes back to living life normally.

He doesn't show any signs or flashing, no outer symptoms on his body of damage or infection, he's not charging at the other tank mates. I've had him for almost 2 years and just noticed this behavior recently.

If anyone can relate please respond :)

That is dominance behavior. Kole tangs usually do that to other tangs or if you put a mirror near the tank. It is a bit odd that the behavior is directed towards you though.

Thanks. I had a feeling it was this or some sign of aggression. He's already the biggest fish out of 6. The rest of the tank mates are quite small.

My Purple does that also. Defending his tank and not happy with an outsider even though I'm the food source. All bluff and nothing to worry about.
