I have had my betta for a few months now. He came to me with his fins all tore up and skinny, but now is fully healed and fat. Only thing is, is that he isn't a fan on mysis or bloodworms. Also had little interest in live shrimp, and couldn't care less about the sexy shrimp who walks right in front of him. But, he loves frozen krill, cooked salad shrimp, and freeze dried krill (this one is his favorite by far).

I say he is weird because other than the FD krill, his next favorite foods are NLS 1 and 3 mm pellets (plant based), and seaweed. He just can't get enough of the seaweed. I actually gave my emerald crab (3+ inch crab mind you) a piece and the MB saw. Well the fish wanted it so bad he tried to take it from the crab! He bit his pincher, and the crab ran away leaving the betta confused as to where his seaweed went. It was hysterical to watch.

Anyone else have this kind of experience with their marine bettas? Seems like I got a vegetarian lol

Maybe he heard you think he is fat and is trying to eat more veggies to work on his figure.

Lol maybe... I saw other people had the same experience on other forums and people bashed the owners for having them eat veggies

It would be one thing if you were force feeding it, but if he is seeking it then likely there is something nutritional he needs. Too many people fail to realize that predators need a degree of green matter, but usually get it through the stomach contents of their prey.

I see. It's weird since normal predators are all over mysis, but my guy doesn't even seem to notice them

I'm laughing my butt off XD I used to have a green spotted puffer and they're supposed to be carnivores, but for some reason he adored nori. Go figure.

Can you post a pic? I've never seen a marine betta before.

My valentini puffer likes his seaweed to! He choses it over pellets and meaty food every single time. The puffer likes it more than the purple tang! I guess some vegetarians just make their way into the trade huh?

Wrasses are supposed to be carnivores aren't they? All of mine (Halichoeres, Cirhillabrus and Paracheilinus) attack nori with as much or more gusto than my herbivores do.
