I’ve had this chalice for over 6 months and it had been doing very well with steady growth and great color.

I did a water change yesterday and noticed a weird black coloring later that evening.

The polyps are still coming out well and everything else seems fine. Any ideas?

What are the parameters of your water and what lighting do you have?

Alk 9.6 dKH
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 2
pH 8.4

I’ve got reefbreeder photon LEDs set around 20 on all channels

We probably need to figure out what your Nitrate, Phosphate, Mag, and Calcium are like as well.

Does anything rub up against the coral? Like a fish or invert? I had a blenny make parts of a chalice die off because he liked to sit on it so much.

Nitrate is at 2, I mistyped nitrite in earlier post. I need to get phosphate, mag, and calcium tests.

I haven’t seen anything rub against it. I’ll keep a closer eye.

The coral seems to be doing fine, no visible tissue damage. Polyps are coming out. It’s just so weird.
