Hello, I went to Reef Palooza this weekend and got this Lobo. Now it is settled in my tank I noticed these teeth looking/ skeleton showing. This was my first expensive coral and I do not want it to die. Would this happen during transport or did I get sold a dieing piece? I know I should have noticed before buying but my eyes were so fried at the end of the night and this was the last thing I got.

I would say it just looks stressed and as mentioned, the flesh is sort of pulling back a little on that one side (whether from flow or stress or some other issue, who knows, would need more info, plus we don’t know how it was kept before you got it). Also, ‘orange lobos’ usually aren’t lobophylia, they’re Acanthastrea pachysepta, and they’re pretty aggressive (so if you ever get any other true lobos - ie non-orange ones- don’t place them next to your orange one, as they will not get along, really just give it plenty of room from anything).

Also, are these expensive now? The last time I bought one, like ten years ago, I bought it for $30 (I think, wouldn’t have been more than $40). When I broke my tank down 2 years ago, I sold it (after 8 or so years of growth) for $80.

Thank you for the info! Most were over $100 at the show, I was really shocked at most of the prices myself but their were a few excellent deals. I got this one for $70 but it was $150.

A quick update, it seems to be growing back in a low flow low light area of my tank. I’ve been feeding it every other day and staying in top on water changes. The fluorescent is starting to come back in a yellow shade as of right now.
