What’s wrong with my rabbitfish?

About a week ago, my rabbitfishes eyes started to get cloudy and have slowly gotten worse. No fluke symptoms like head shaking or twitching. Then, he developed lumps/sores on his “forehead.” At first, I thought one of my other aggressive fish was picking at his eyes, but things have slowly gotten worse. He still eats like crazy, but he’s clearly having a difficult time see the food. Could be as simple as him rubbing against the glass irritating himself?something else?

I maintain SPS quality water, none of my other fish show any signs of illness, and I’ve added nothing to my tank for 3 or four months (no fish, coral, rock, macro....nothing).

Thoughts?

Looks like flukes to me for certain. I would do a 5 min FW dip on the fish to confirm.

Then you can either treat in QT or in DT with Prazipro. 2 treatments 5-7 days apart.

If you treat in QT you would need to move all of your fish out of DT and treat as well as leave the DT fallow for 6 weeks.

Really? He was the last fish added and it was months ago. I’ve had flukes before and it quickly spread amongst my fish. They were all twitching. I’ve seen nothing like this recently. The cloudy eyes indicate flukes, but the lumps/sores?

I could probably catch the rabbit, but catching all of my fish would be super difficult.

A FW dip will definitely confirm.

You can treat your DT. I have used prazi in a DT. No SPS present but had no issues. If you have feather dusters or other ornamental worms it will kill them.

Thanks, I’ve done FW dips to identify flukes and I’ve used Prazi in my DT before. I’m just hesitant to believe it’s flukes since I have added nothing to my tank for such a long time.

I guess it’s worth a try to FW dip. I’ll try to catch him tomorrow night.

Could also be a bacterial infection... but I’d definitely rule out flukes first.

Bacterial infection would need to be addressed in a QT tank. But, only the rabbit fish would need treated. Do you have a QT already, just in case? Or an acclimation box?

Might be handy just in case you don’t find flukes, can just go straight from the dip to QT for antibiotics. Trying to save you from a second fishing trip ;)

Looks like scarring of some kind. Any aggression toward it by other inhabitants?
