I got this from another reefer a last week. He probably thought it was dead and decided to attach it to a frag plug because of the zoas on it.
Tonight, I discovered it's alive. It opens slightly, and snaps shut when a fish touches it. It's foot is attached firmly to the large rock already.
I can't take it out or cut the frag plug off, I need an extra set of hands for that and I don't have anyone to help. It's attached to the rock making it more difficult for me to do on my own. I can't support the clam, the rock and cut at the same time. Plus I am afraid I'd crack the shell since there's so much glue on it.
Should I just leave it alone and maybe one day it'll manage to get the plug off as it grows? I am not sure how wide it should open.. I don't think the frag plug is restricting it's opening ability.
and... what kind of clam is it? or is it a mussel? Should I at least move it to another location out of the light or it prefers light?
