what are you using to measure SG ? friend of mine has a torch do this recently, found out that his SG was actually lower than he thought.

Refractometer 1.025 from lfs pre mixed and my tank runs at 1.026. My hammer is fine. TOUCH WOOD. And every other coral is looking good. I just dont understand.

Theres one head that doesn't look completely gone yet so hoping it could make a recovery.

not trying to beat a dead fish here, but the refract was recently calibrated and verified correct? a hammer is a little more resilient to SG swings than a torch seems to be. we watched my friends literally melt away while everything else in his tank looked perfect. which is why we didn't double check the SG until later.

aside from this as a possibility, what time of flow and lighting is it under?

It gets calibrated every time i use it with RO. And a good clean. Flow wise it is the same as my hammer. A gentle sway. Or was. I do have two peppermint but they havnt been anywhere near it... think ill stick to hammers as ive heard a lot of peoples doing this for no real reason.

the peppermint may be messing with it in the middle of the night, its definitely possible.

side note, calibrating a refrac with RO setting to zero can easily make testing for SG @ 1.026 inaccurate. used to do the same thing until putting it to the test with multiple refract's
out of 5 that we tried, 4 were off when testing water that was 1.026. 1 read .002 off and 3 others read .003 off.

Sorry to read, but -

Yea I call the peppermint, he did the same to some Acans of mine. Now I want him out.. 5$ shrimp taking out $50 worth of coral, yea he's kickin rocks soon

I use to cal my refract with ro and I started noticeing a lot of my corals looked bad and watched many slowly melt away...
I keep my tank at 1.026 also
so I got a cal solution from brs and found my refract was off... waaaaaay off...
after cal'ed it to the solution I tested the tank and it read 1.021
yep.... a whole .005 off.. was not happy
try getting a SG standard and try from there
good luck and hope improves
