What causes water to precipitate?

Is it because water parameters are off, Calcium, DKH, Magnesium, or maybe to much salt?

Overdosing one or more of the big 3:

Going over the daily recommend dose of a manufacturers calcium / alk or mag will cause precipt. Your big 3 will go down instead of raising up. Also, Overdosing can cause your sand bed to harden.

When you overdose, your ions bind together and you get precipitation.

If your magnesium is too low your cal and alk ions will bind together too and coral calcification will stop.
