You always see people chasing parameters, chasing ph(Im guilty of doing that now)upgrading lights, changing up flow, etc. Sometimes methodical and with purpose. Others throwing quick fixes at the tank. Other times a deep dive into OCD.

What are some things you've done that have been game changers for your tank? Maybe something that surprised you it fixed anything at all? Or surprised you how much it did fix something?

My growth on my acros was really slow and I had zero polyp extension. I have a basement sump setup and my ph was a l ways low, but just didnt think it made that much of a difference. I swapped from 100% all for reef to about 70% kalkwasser 30% all for reef and i've got polyps on corals i've never seen polyps on before! Cant believe i waited this long! Only been a week now but i'm pretty confident this is going to be the begining of a new chapter in my reef keeping!

I’m trying to bring on change on my tank right now. It’s been running for 4 years (with a transfer after 2 years) but I had little coral growth and lots of coral deaths because of constant battles with Dino’s.

I’m going the live phyto, bacteria, silicate route mostly. With elbow juice. Will see how it goes but I am hopeful.

I had a cyano/dinos nightmare at one point. Luckily the dinos were out competed by cyano and I beat that by stopping water changes to get nutrients up, and I picked up a few chunks of live rocks from a LFS. within a week or two, different tank altogether. That was probably the biggest game changer for me. Good, established rock.
