The threaded side is for National Pipe Thread (NPT) plumbing fittings!the 1" pipe I have fits perfectly on the slip side. the threaded side just doesn't fit anything 1"
That would indeed be the cleanest way to plumb this!The adapter you got appears to be female thread/slip and you want male thead/slip.

No, the external threads are for the bulkhead nut...The bulkhead is fine. It's just threaded both internally and externally.

How did schedule 80 become a thing in the hobby, has there been schedule 40 failures?That is a common fitting that would be available at Home Depot or Lowe's. Might not look exactly like what you got, but will still work. No need for schedule 80....schedule 40 (common fittings) will fit just fine.
