gonna superglue some magnets from a frag tray I have laying around and should work as a probe holder. I thought the one from Apex was a bit pricey

As long as the magnets are strong enough, then should work just fine.

Make sure the magnets are reef safe. Some contain metals that break down and rusts, which leaches into your water.
Edit...oops. I just noticed you said they were from a frag tray. I missed that the first time. Everything should be good. :-)
