At this point I really don't have much of a bioload on the tank it's growing weekly but everything just seems to be spot-on phosphate is still showing 0 got a little algae growing in the tank.

What water you using to top up? Salt or fresh, the 0 phosphate is worrying, probably best to bring that up to 0.03

I was watching a ReefDudes video

He was interviewing an Female Asian Canadian reefer who seemed to think that evap and top off turnover was synonymous with changing the water

Anyway, I would say that wet skimmate turnover might count

That’s cool, I would definitely keep up with water changes.

Adding RODI water as topoff does not do the same thing as a water change. When your water evaporates it leaves behind all the nutrients, contaminants, etc. In fact, it concentrates them. Also, the top off water you are putting in should be pure and therefore will not replenish calcium, alkalinity, magnesium or trace elements. You therefore still need to do water changes (or some other method like Triton) to export the bad stuff and replenish the good stuff.
