I started culturing tisbee copepods and I was looking to build a sieve set after seeing how pricey they were online. For those of you who went the DIY route, what did you use for the mesh? I'm thinking of going 50-125-250.

Go to a Fishing and Tackle store or have a look online for those trawlable Plankton nets.
I'd thought of getting one for a while because I often go fishing and figure I could get free Phyto and pods.
There are some commercial Plankton Nets worth thousands of dollars so it might take a minute of digging to find one that could be used by a hobbyist but they absolutely exist, I saw two under $50 at my local tackle and bait store recently.

I bought mesh bags from Amazon, you can buy them in different micron sizes. Then I cut them and glued them to pvc pipes. I have 50 and 100 micron sizes. It works perfect and it’s super cheap.

This is nice I like it. You probably have a filter sock on hand that could do it.

Link doesn’t work for me.

A few places sell nylon fabric mesh as sheets, but getting filter socks and cutting them up is a good way if you can verify the size.

For a container, I much prefer cutting a window in the side of a plastic 2 cup measuring cup, leaving about 1/4 inch at the bottom, and then using aquarium silicone to hold on the mesh to the side. Lets you pour through but then keep some liquid for them in the bottom. Also stacks, so you can sort by size.

50 micron or so should catch even the youngest tisbe nauplii, and much smaller starts having draining or clogging issues due to surface tension and pore size, so only go smaller if you need it.
