I have a 125 gallon reef tank and looking for stocking ideas for tangs. I definitely know I want a purple and a white tail since the white tail stay relatively on the smaller size and looking for options for a potential third. I like the lavender tangs, powder blue or chocolate mimic. I know they can be aggressive and if I were to get 3 tangs total I would add them all at same time. If just two I would probably go with a fox face since they are relatively peaceful. Just wanna know if this could work or if there be too much aggression.
Thank for the opinions and advice!

I'd skip the powder blue tang, extremely prone to disease and as you say, aggressive. How about throwing someone smaller in the mix, like a tomini, gem or yellow? Angels or dwarf angels are also good options.

I'd do one of each type of I was mixing tangs, but 125 is smaller. I'd stick with the two you mentioned and get a foxface, pyramid butterfly or swallowtail angels if you are looking for another larger show fish.

100% dont get a powder blue. I had a 125 before my current tank and mine murdered 2 fish before I got it out. Lavenders are pretty but many say they are pretty nasty too. Chocolates are really cool, thats what I would do out of that list

Gold rim tang too if you wanted an acanthurus tang.

Oh yeah! And powder browns. I really like powder browns. Mine was fine in my 125

A yellow would be beautiful but I would just be worried about mixing the zebras with yellow and purple. Is it worth a shot? Just want to avoid death fights

That is a great looking fish. I’m just so scared for fighting. I had some African cichlids couple years ago and 1 killed like 4 others within a day or 2 when I was gone.

Seems like the best option. Thanks for the advice. I’d potentially be looking to upgrade in a few years eventually just want to minimize aggression as much as I can for now

No worries — I have 3 purple, 2 yellow, 2 sailfin, 1 gem, 2 FF, and 5 angels mixed in the 450gal tank. They are all getting along, except the occasional bullying between angels.

For a 125gal, you should be able to mix one of each like @Kasrift mentioned w/o issues. The key is make sure they have plenty of food, fed multiple times a day.

If the tank is 6 feet and added together the yellow and purple work. I did it in my 125! I would do it again in my 300 but Calypso would flip out. Shes my massive sailfin tang

How did you do two sailfins??? I would love to have a desjardini with Calypso! That would be so cool to have both versions of them 😂 shes super mean though so I dont think that will work at all but still super cool!

Luck? ;) It was rough the first few days but very peaceful after that - no issues. One of them is double the size of the other. See below…
