I will teaching my brother throughout the summer since my school is super strict on how many gallons I can have and 20g is the max

The Live Aquaria site has good information on fish. I would suggest looking at fish that are “peaceful”, “easy”, “reef safe” and “nano”.

You also want fish that do not share the same niche. A small blenny would be good. A small wrasse would be another good choice. There are a number of small gobies that would work. A dart fish like a fire fish would be good. Also a cardinal like a Bengai cardinal would be good. You might also get a Chromis.

You just do not want too many fish. A 30 gallon can only hold so much.

How many fish do you think it can have the most I’ve had was 4 and I think it could have atleast had one more

I'm a huge blenny and goby fan. Firefish are gorgeous. As beautiful as they are, Dottybacks/pseudochromis can be evil. I'd keep away from them. Stepping away from fish, inverts can be really fun. I have a banded coral shrimp and a fire shrimp that get lots of attention from people who view my tank.

Welcome to R2R! Could get a basslet, dartfish/firefish, goby, pygmy wrasse, dwarf hawkfish, cardinal, small blenny, etc...

Lots of choices :) I think in a 30 gallon tank 4 fish is pretty close to maxed out. If some of them are very small, like neon or clown gobies or barnacle blennies... might be able to get away with 1-2 more, but you’ll be running short on territories and clowns tend to try to claim the whole tank once they start breeding in smaller tanks.

I had a single clown, a yellow watchman goby, royal gramma, and a yellow lined cardinal when I had my 28g bowfront.

In theory, the smaller the fish, the more you can have.

I had a Coral Beauty in a 40 gallon and she did fine. Keep in mind that my tank was 10 gallons larger and I also had TONS of algae for it to eat

Which Gobies depends on the fish/inverts you choose, the amount of sand/live rock you have and how established your tank is.

Make sure you check the compatibility of the fish, temperament and what order they should be added. The more aggressive/territorial should be added last. Here’s a link to a compatibility chart that @revhtree posted. Definitely check it out!

You may already know this, but don’t forget to QUARANTINE YOUR FISH!! Trust me, I speak from experience. Velvet wiped out my tank last year:( Here is a link to some great information on that subject.

Welcome to R2R I would not recommend at dottyback they are aggressive little rats but wrasses, gobies and cardinals fish to are very good I have a starry Blennie in my tank that has one heck of a personality also a great fish to have
