OK, I need your help. I am really bewildered by what’s going on with my sand bed. I’ve had a saltwater aquarium for the past 20 years and I’ve never experienced this.
I’m just over 16 months into a brand new 200 gallon reef tank. I have aragonite and the Fuji pink sand mixed in with it. It started out that pearly white colour the little hint of pink and now it’s green and I can’t figure it out.
It’s like each piece of oragonite has turned (or painted) green and I don’t know what it is. The rest of the tank is fine. I have the normal you know slight buildup of LG that I scrape off every a day or two and I have great Coraline algae growth and a huge cleanup crew nacreous snails, Astra and turbo snails.
I’ve been adding corals over the past six months and I’ve got candy canes frog spawn, crusting corals, and and a few mushrooms.
I have three Kessil A360 Tuna Blue that I ramp up starting at 9 AM till noon and then I run for four hours at 60% and then ramp down till 9 o’clock at night.
I do weekly water changes, and I python the bottom every 2 to 3 water changes.
I use RODI water I auto top. I’ve got a reef mat 1200 in the sump. I’ve got a protein skimmer sicca pumps, 2-Nero 5 power heads, 2-Maxspect gyre, the trident, calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium tester. I use the BRS chems for dosing and I’m just totally bewildered by why just the sand bed is green.
Unfortunately, I am sitting in Florida right now, which could be a good thing or a bad thing but I’m not near my tank so I can’t get a picture to show you so if anybody has any ideas about what might be causing this, I’d really appreciate any help you might be able to provide.
Thanks Terry
