what is my emerald crab doing?

I was watching him and he was eating and then spitting little tube like things out. I've noticed a bunch of these tube laying around the tank.

Just eating algae and stuff of the sand and rocks. At the time I saw him do it it was off the sand.

Just a wild guess here, but those look like the ends of tubes that vermetid snails make. Maybe the emerald is eatting the algae off the tube?

I don't think so, but they could eat the algae that develops on a dead vermetid snails tube.
