i think it's much more common in anthias and chromis, but damsels and dwarf angels i think get it with some frequency

A lot of damsels are great community fish. "Damsel" is a huge classification covering many genera.

If anyone wants to discount everything called damsel, it is their loss.

I agree that Lepidozygus tapeinosoma probably shouldnt be called a damsel. In fact it is often called purple chromis or mimic anthias as well as other names.

Dont tell my 25 damsels they are mean, they might eat you.
What kinds do you have and what is your favorite? Which do you think is the least aggressive?

I have: fusilier damsels, starki, azure, talbot, rollands, springer and tuxedos.

All are peaceful but the tuxedos are the most rambunctious, by a good margin.

I have a lemon (Pomacentrus moluccensis), 3 talbots, 6 azures. They are all fine currently. They tussle a bit for territory, but there is plenty of room. May get some more. Just have not yet decided. I put them all in the tank at one time. A bit leary to add more unless I again add a bunch at one time.

So uh…what’s the final 2023 verdict on springeris?

Mine are peaceful-ish but have been a little twatty to my new fairy wrasse so I’ve got the Nyos fish trap deployed and one of them is being evicted

Springer and other Chrysiptera genus damsels are easy going.

Juvenile fairy wrasses can be really wimpy. Depends on tank size too, of course.

Not all Chrysiptera are equal! I am going fishing tomorrow and try to get mine out! A figi blue devil! he was a model citizen until he was alone for a while and now he kills every fish I have tried! Either bullys them to death or they jump!

I am getting a lid and some new fish. I was going to try to get all semi agressive ones but they will be small and he is 3 or more inches and very thick so he has to go! I tried today for a short while and gave up but going to give it another try or buy a trap! The dang trap is 60 bucks but beets him killing off all the fish I have bought!

The online store listed him as semi aggressive so I had clowns and a 6 line and another semi aggressive at the time so he fit the bill! The store has since changed listing to agressive!

Killed clowns and a 6 line wrasse? Whoa. What was the tank size? A fully grown damsel that has been alone in a tank for a while not liking new comers does make sense.
