Many of Veron's concepts on coral classification are wrong, and judging by the CotW website, he often misidentifies them.The curse of coral morphology is that often you have to have a scanning electron microscope and J.E.N. Veron by your side to hope to identify a coral properly, and you will have to cut off a frag to do the examination.

I wouldn't recommend using a Google image search for reference images, as many of the photos are misidentified.
Coral finder is a good guide; however, it mostly only IDs down to the genus level. Indo-Pacific Corals by Joe Rowlett is a good guide too, although the taxonomy is somewhat outdated, being released in 2020.If anyone is into doing the ID stuff The Coral Finder is considered a very good guide.
