What is this please. It is white. Brown spot in middle. I plucked it with tweezers, quarter inch. It looks like a baby star fish. I am a 29 gallon reef biocube. Is it bad?

Asterina (sp) star. Can reproduce quickly and some have been noted to eat corals.

Thank you. Did it come in as a hitch hiker? Do I just keep plucking as I see them?

Plucking them as you see them will work to keep numbers down. Just be sure you do not break a piece off. That piece will become a new one. Also, they come out more at lights out and their main food source is generally coralline.

There are other ways, but they may not work for you.

Harlequin shrimp eat them and would rid a 29 BC quickly, but once out of them it would starve quickly.

Being a 29 BC, getting them out manually all at one time would work, but that depends on the corals you have, how porous the rocks are and so on.

Interesting. Everything I have is small. I have a hammer, candy cane, birds nest, chalice, star polyp, leptoseris-orange and blue, brown button polyp, colt AND a zoa. I actually have to ‘prune” my tank because Everything is doing well EXCEPT for the zoa. Wonder it my asterina snail invasion is worse than I thought.

One last question then I will leave everyone alone. . I have white “sand” on the back wall of my tank. Not on glass. It’s hard. It feels like sand.

Sounds like spirobid worms/snails. Some people call them one or the other. Google “spirobid” and see if they resemble it.

Also, the link below is a super helpful link and has a ton of hitchhikers listed in it.

yes ... when u see them just remove them all ... if it is out of control, visit your nearby fish store ask them Harlequin Shrimp
then make a deal to return the shrimp after a month, most of the store will accept this.
Harlequin Shrimp only eat starfish. if you're out off Asterina star ... then u have to feed them with starfish...it is better to return.
