There is a discoloration almost looks like algae in the center at the base. I bought this Brown from the discount rack. I thought it was coming back with a nice light purple but then I see this in the base and wonder if I'm nursing a dead Canary. I sprayed It with a turkey baster twice and it wouldn't come off. Looks like STN "slow tissue necrosis". Has a million causes but most likely are pest, water quality, infection, or water parameter swings.
 
Ohh well I've been known to have a case or two of wishful thinking. I agree either is it's dead or STN. I hope it's not pests. I guess I'll keep in the tank a little while longer to grow some more algea. Thank you, Zag
