If you remove the tube, you can look inside the fitting to see if the circled retaining ring’s plastic body is broken; this determines if it needs replacement! (It’s a fairly inexpensive fitting, too!)
Agreed!Don't by the lowes garbage. Buy original John Guest brand, they are 100x more reliable.
They make small locking clips that both pull the collar out and ensure that it can't be pressed back in. My suggestion is to use those.It has been my experience that the collar sometimes doesn't snap back after inserting the tube.
I insert a flat head screwdriver into the slot and pull it toward the tubing.
As others noted, it's probably just not inserted all the way....there are multiple "sticking points" that can make it feel seated before it really is.
