Just noticed this in my tank. Anyone know what it is? Is it harmful to my tank. I do have other coral, but nothing like this.

They can be harmful to corals because they can and do sting. Most varieties are also very invasive. If there's no corals nearby, you can suck some boiling water into a syringe and inject it directly in the mouth/oral disc.

Some people report good results with lemon juice instead of boiling water.

Lots of people use Aiptasia-X or similar or mix up their own Kalk Paste and inject that into the mouth. If you can remove the rock temporarily, take it out, inject it in a bowl of tank water, then super glue over it and return it to the tank for the best results.

Yep. Aiptasia. It is not an immediate crisis, but it is a good idea to deal with it before it spreads and gets out of control.

I'm a little bummed, I got a new MacBook recently that I'm on right now, and I can't see the uploaded video. I know a lot of R2R members complain that they can't see uploaded videos, but I had much better luck on my PC's.....

Anyway, I'm sure the previous posters have it nailed and that it's an Aptasia anemone species, and I just wanted to add that I've had good luck taking Aptasia out with a syringe loaded with lemon juice. The only issue is that you have to sneak up on the little devils from the side, if they sense the shadow of your hand coming for them, they close right up. Little buggers 😆

As @tbrown mentioned, you can glue or epoxy them to death.

Both peppermint shrimp mentioned by @SpartaReef and Berghia Nudibranchs will eat Aptasia too.

Last, there are a few specific species of Aptasia that are not the hyper-invasive variety so hated by many that have been overrun by them. If you have just one or two, I might not panic and go full nuclear mode just yet. I have like two Aptasia in a two+ year old tank that are just doing their thing, they are not spreading at all.

I hope that helps and good luck!

Also, here's Tidal Gardens on Berghia Nudibrachs:

And a recent BRSTV video on Aptasia. Yes, not everyone on R2R likes the videos by BRSTV, but I think this one has good information for your situation:

Again, best of luck!!

Pictures?

Sorry, but I just want to differentiate.

What I'm going off of is the information on the Tampa Bay Saltwater website, but I see now they are saying the anemones that don't spread are in the genus Belllactis, so maybe not true Aptasia after all:
