what is your water bill?

Maybe I am way off on this one, but out of every bill I pay the only one that really gets me swearing is my water bill. It seems the going average of most municipalities around me is about 30.00 a month give or take. For the most part negligible. I know a few people with massive systems that guzzle up water like crazy and that is also around what they are paying.

I live in WI and I can heat my entire hose comfortably in january for less than what I pay for a month of water. I have been moaning about this one for a while and have gone down and talked to some of the people in the town office about it and they offer no help at all other than to say it's too complicated to explain and I need to start going to budget meetings If I really need to know why it's so high.

apparently it is a state law that I can not put in my own well in a municipality in WI as well.

So before I take it to that level I though id ask what some other peoples water bills were around the country.

My last bill for three months was 179 for water and 216 for sewer. my consumption was 24000 gal

it averages to roughly 130 a month. To me that just seems excessively high. But like I said maybe I am way off.

Are any of you paying a lot for water too and if so did you ever get any explanation as to why?

$45 a month here. 3 reef tanks, swimming pool and 3 teenage kids.

Thats about what I pay. The sewer part they figure off your water bill and its an average. So if you had a water leak or something that caused a really high water bill one month that gets averaged into it and makes your bill higher. Sometimes you can get them to refigure it sometimes you can't depending who you talk to. $130 is pretty close to mine though.

I'm not sure if this is true everywhere but I had a buddy who was getting very high water bills because of a big system and making a lot of rodi water. He had a separate meter installed for his irrigation system and tied his rodi into the water source for the irrigation. The water for irrigation was charged a different (cheaper) rate due to the fact that the water isnt being put into tge sewer system. Hope this helps some.

It's for water and sewer yep.

I looked into a separate meter like you mentioned and they can do it but of course. There is an additional monthly fee for the extra meter. About 40.00.

My water bill is $60 a month, I have a septic tank though so no charge on that. I have 3 kids and I tend to take long showers....

We are in drought condtions here so we don't even water our lawns. Mine runs about $38 without ro.

Where I live they base water rates off your November-January usage. So a lot of people take clothes to laundry mat at this time to keep bills lower through out the year

I am really not sure how much of it goes to the tank, but it's a lot I know that. Like everyone around me most of you are in the 30-50.00 average.

My consumption average is about 258 gallons a day which also seems high to me. But I could be off on that one too.

I pay monstrous electric bills with a smile but i just feel like I am really getting ripped off for water. Month after month. I wont even get into the quality of it for now.

Turn off all your water in your house, go out to your meter and if its spinning you have a water leak.

I live in AZ, water my lawn regularly, have two teenage kids, a wife, a reef tank (75g), two dogs and three cats. My highest bill (water and sewer) was around $150 and that's only because I reseeded my 1/4 acre backyard ;)

My normal bill is around $60.

Doesn't take much of a leak to add up quickly. We had a toilet that ran a little all the time and was hit with a $150 water bill one month. Tiny stream of water cost that much more money.

Here in Los Angeles the water and sewer are very pricey. I live on a 12000 sq ft lot with grass yards front and back. Water ranges from 250 to 350 for a 2 month period. Sewer is about the same. We have tiered pricing where the more you use the more expensive it gets at each level.

I'm averaging 27 to 30 cubic feet of water for 3 month period. last bill was almost 450 so 150 a month. When I started using RO/DI it went up about $30 a month, but that is what I was paying for water at LFS and I didnt have to drive there anymore. Almost 70% of the bill is sewer here though, which they just say matches the incoming water. THey give us a little break in the summer to do a little watering, but I sure wish I could get a meter on the sewer line so I could just run the RO/DI waste to the stormdrain.
