What keeps you coming back to Reef2Reef?

Guess what Reef2Reef means? A whole bunch of different things to a whole host of people. To some, it might be the place to go and find good deals on used equipment, to discuss the latest reefing trends, or maybe it's where you go to get more information about your tank. Reef2Reef is just one of those places where people can come from many different backgrounds, looking for many different reasons to use Reef2Reef. So what keeps you coming back to Reef2Reef?

I also try to help answer questions if I have the ability as a way of paying back for all the help I've received.

R2R is a throwback to what the Internet used to be - a place where people passionate about a subject (or just mildly interested) can gather and discuss that subject while helping each other. Plus it lets me indulge in my tertiary hobby of bloviating and pontificating. I'm a firm believer in the Robert Jordan school of writing - why use 10 words, when 1000 will do? And I legitimately enjoy helping out new reefers, especially the ones who have been caught up in that most common of newbie conditions - information overload.

R2R and Reddit are my sole social media outlets - I don't use TikTok, Insta, Twitter (I refuse to call it X) or any of the other platforms... they share the common thread of supporting my bloviation habit.

I was initially a member of ReefCentral but even before they closed the page I was already showing up here the majority of the time. Its a combination of the general friendliness of its users, experienced help, the page has a nice appearance and is always being attended to.

Learning. Learning by reading, learning by assisting (?) others, and doing so in a great environment. I like that I am in over my head in this hobby, and that there is always high-quality help available here. It's so much better than just going it alone, especially for an endeavor as complex and with so many possible paths as reefkeeping.

I am a reader because words have meanings. I don’t care for spoken words ie blogs etc. Hard of hearing and people mumble and I don’t do well with accents or even regional dialogues. I actually prefer books where I can flip back to page 3 easily and reread to make sure I thoroughly understand, but no one writes them anymore and they can’t keep pace with technology and science. I find most Facebook groups full of know it alls and false or misleading information at best and straight out scam artists at the worst. I have found this to be the best alternative. The local reef group is nice but I would say 50 active hobbyist in a three city metro area of 400 thousand.

For me mostly its the community, I love helping others, giving different opinions or real experiences matter in this hobby and is very important IMO. I love seeing photos of members tanks, corals and fish. Its amazing to see the skills and creativity that people have. Reefing is about learning and I love a hobby that can teach me something new everyday and its abundant here on R2R. The friendships you make here and within the hobby is priceless to me.

Not much of a reefing community where im from, no clubs or get together that ive been able to findso ill keep on coming back to r2r to share information, hang out with fellow reefers and just shoot the ****.
