Hey guys I’ve looked a decent amount and can’t ID this algae. I don’t mind it, I’m just curious what it is. Tank is just over two months. Started with bleached live rock and have quarantined isolated everything going into the tank so far. I dose phytoplankton and pods could it be that? I thought phyto stays in the water column but that’s my guess. In person it’s greenish brown but predominately brown and only seems to grow on the surfaces that get the most light. Thank you

If you have no corals you don't need lights in the tank. You can wait a few months and let the tank develop biodiversity and microfauna then when you turn lights on and add corals your ugly stages will be manageable. Rocks will get all types of algae the first year, slime, fuzz, GHA, etc... they will turn green, red, purple, brown etc...

Do you have a cleaner crew? Are you doing weekly water changes? The first year is filled with ugly phases.

Is the tank getting to much light from the windows behind it?

Yes, thank you for your reply. To be clear I don't mind the algae I'm just curious what species it is Im not complaining about it I just want to know what it is for my own knowledge. I do 10% weekly water changes. CUC includes 4 white leg hermit, 4 blue leg hermit, 3 trochus snails, 4 nassarius snails, 1 gigantic turbo snail, 1 Florida cerith snail, 1 strawberry conch, 1 pithos crab. Tank does indeed get a lot of light from the windows but I honestly really like that I think once I get to the 4-6 month mark and start adding photosynthetic inverts I will assess if I need heavy duty blinds etc but I want to see if the corals nems benefit from natty light.

Started tank with fritz turbo start 9000. Have been dosing microbacter7, PNS substrate sauce, AF life source mud, phytoplankton and pods. To boost/initiate biodiversity.

To me, it looks like regular tank uglies associated with a maturing tank, it should go away on its own.

Sounds like you are off to a good start. I wouldn't dose to much stuff in a new tank. They are unstable and you may create imbalance that benefits the uglies. Pods ever 3 months or so. Phytoplankton once or twice a week. Really focus on your primary parameters rather then bottles of stuff. Over light will cause algae as you probably know.
