the 'brain' of the one that died for you is just a cheap $10 relay. sometimes they last forever, sometimes they die early. chances are if you replace it with a new one it will last a long time and that you just had a dud this time.

Yeah Dave - that does. :) And I'm worried about a PURCHASED one giving me a potential issue from 2,000 miles away! :D If I was home with it I'd consider DIY, but DIY doesn't give me long-distance warm & fuzzies. :D :D :D

Whether it's DIY or a purchased one, the risk is real anyway.

Tunze is expensive because a) it comes with the pump, b) the controller has LEDs, and those are awesome, c) it's TUNZE, d) it comes from Germany, e) they have unbelievable customer service.

If it wasn't for the customer service, I would have had to buy 2 new top offs by now on that tank. I'm probably not making your choice any easier, but for set and forget, I would really recommend the Osmo.

I purchased a used JBJ a year ago and no problems. It works like a charm. I made my own acrylic sensor holder. The previous owner said it was one year old.

The osmolator's reliabililty, safeguards, and longetivity can't be beat. Compare the feautures to the cost. Buy it right and you'll only have to buy it once. They also have very inexpensive replacement pumps.

For these same reasons, I ordered an osmolator from Aquacave today. I was going to just go with another autotopoff.com unit, but then I thought back to all the times in this hobby I tried to cheap out and later spent MORE money. (like starting with modded MaxiJets - then replacing them with Tunze's)

Get what you want the first time and you only cry once. ;)

I dunno Mike I have the modded Maxi's and like them. They sure do move some water!!!!

Eric

Yeah - they do. But I had 3 of 4 mod kits go bad on me in a few months. If it wasn't broken plastic pieces, it was sheared impellers. :squigglemouth: That being said, even the Tunze make me wish I'd bought a couple of Vortech's.

I use the Spectrapure LLC-M. It has worked flawlessly for 2 years now(knock wood). It also keeps my 30g RO/DI storage container full at all times. You can hook up an endless amount of things for this to top off.
