Not sure what you have against plywood, but my oak veneer plywood stand has been around for 17 years and it looks as if it will easily go another 17 years.
It may not qualify as fine furniture grade, but it ain't ugly.
I worry about strength and durability and I was looking at something like this.

You can go with the biggest beams you can fit in your room, but if the joints aren't some really fancy Japanese joinery there will always be a weak point that allows for movement side to side and back and forth.
Plywood prevents that. Like I mentioned my plywood stand is 17+ years old and looks as if it will go another 17 years.
But looking at the second stand with those cool looking brackets, hmm. Maybe if there was waterproof glue involved.
If you like the open stand look, checkout aluminum or steel stands.

I used clean pine 2x4's to frame my stand. Then I used 2x12 for the top.and 1x12 for the bottom and shelves. wrapped the stand in good quality A C plywood and painted the outside in matte black..I left the inside natural so it would reflect light better...
I’m trying to decide what kind of wood is the most affordable and best to use for someone to make me a fish tank stand. For those of you who made your stand. What kind of wood did you use? Anything but plywood lol. I was thinking pine because it’s cheaper. I like walnut but that’s a bit pricier and wood is very expensive ri

I made my stand from 3/4 x 6" red oak. The sides are oak veneered Plywood and the top is plywood. I finished it with Spar Urethane. The tank is 125 Gallon and the stand is solid. I screwed and glued it together using the kreg Pocket hole Jig

Did you buy the tank yet? because you should get the Petco 75 during the 1/2 off sale
Yes! I traded a few lbs of rock for a 55! I know they have some great sales right now and saltwater fish will be 25% off April 14-16th!

This is poplar with a walnut stain. All the framing is pine 2x4's and 2x6's then I sealed the inside with a waterproof sealant used for flooring. The stand cost about $500 to build myself but I also installed GFI plugs in it so I could just plug everything in easier. Both the top panel and bottom panel come off completely to give easy access. Didn't like the idea of doors since I have kids and that makes it to easy to access. Plus, our cat likes to open random draws and doors!
